Cyber Citizenship
Findley was really at the forefront of teaching Cyber Citizenship to our students! Now, an integral part of the curriculum,, back in 2013 I met with all third, fourth and fifth grade classes to discuss this vital topic. We focused on the concept of responsible on line behavior, and brainstormed about specific ways the students could stay safe when accessing the web on their computers, tablets and smartphones.. Afterwards, the students wrote down two key "take aways" from the lesson.. We linked all of these responses together, and created a colorful "chain of responsibility" which proudly hung up in each classroom.
As a practical application of Cyber Citizenship, most third, fourth and fifth grade teachers used individual logons with their students. This had multiple advantages:
The children did a fabulous job memorizing their unique IDs and passwords, and they were very proud of the fact that they had their very own, private folder!
All students will eventually logon to the network with their unique User IDs and passwords.

As a practical application of Cyber Citizenship, most third, fourth and fifth grade teachers used individual logons with their students. This had multiple advantages:
- It took the children to the next level with technology, as it expanded their understanding of the concept of passwords.
- It protected their work.
- It added a level of "ownership" to their work.
- It gave us the opportunity to introduce Cyber Citizenship in a very practical, "nuts-and-bolts" way.
